Hi, everybody. I know I haven't said much on my website and newsletters lately, but believe me when I say that I am moving along with my current novel, for which work is approaching the finish line. I look forward to reaching that point and finally unveiling the title and other details of my fourth medical thriller. With that, let's dive right into the latest news about what is happening with me as an author. It'll be kind of quick and cursory this time around. What's New: Progress on Audiobook of Book Four, Plus An Award for Poison Pill At this point, I am about two-thirds of the way through recording the audiobook of my fourth medical thriller novel. Specifically, I have 24 chapters recorded out of 35 total. I am moving along according to my planned schedule. I'm feeling good about my narration of the story, too. Meanwhile, the Hollywood Book Awards were recently announced. Poison Pill, my third medical thriller novel, was named a Finalist in the category of Best Medical Thriller. Basically, it's a second-place honor, which is still pretty good. You can see all of the winners and finalists here: https://www.hollywoodbookreviews.com/winners-finalists-2026. Coming Up: Book Four Reveal At this point, I will take a break for a little over a week before I finish recording the remaining 11 chapters of the audiobook. Once my final review and polishes of it are done, I will contact my cover designer to create the cover for book four. That will be the last step before my official review of its title and cover, along with excerpts and other content related to the book on my website. I expect this to happen in late November or early December. Stay tuned. The Medical Files of Dr. Mark Lin: Deep Vein Thrombosis and Pulmonary Embolism As usual, I like to feature actual medical conditions in my medical thrillers. Here is another example I would like to share. At the start of my second novel Toxic Minds, Mark has a patient, Shannon Dixon, who was admitted for treatment of pulmonary embolism following deep vein thrombosis. Curious about what those two conditions are? Well, here's one source that can explain it clearly to you: https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/pulmonary-embolism/symptoms-causes/syc-20354647. Inside the Mind of Anthony Lee: Character Names How do I come up with names for my characters? Believe it or not, I use a free online random name generator. I keep flipping through random male and female names until I see first and last names that, for whatever reason, sounds natural for whichever character I am naming. Sometimes, the first and last name combo works. Other times, I like a first name here and a last name there and decide to put those two together. Once in a while, a random first and/or last name comes to my own mind and I go with that. Even then, there's still one more step after: making sure the name does not belong to any high-profile public figure. I would usually do a Google search for the name to see what comes up. Sometimes, I'll use an AI chatbot to ask if whatever name I want to use is safe for fiction as it does not belong to someone who is high profile. These are necessary steps, but they are rewarding to go through. Fun Stuff: Golden State Valkyries in the WNBA Finals I am enjoying the WNBA Finals and seeing the Golden State Valkyries, my favorite team, grinding out the series against the Atlanta Dream. As of now, Atlanta has a 2-1 game lead in this best-of-seven series. I would love it if the Valkyries win the championship, but regardless of what ultimately happens, I am super proud of how this team made it to the final round of the playoffs in only their second season in existence. That's a step up from last year when they were the first WNBA expansion team to make the playoffs in their inaugural season. The remainder of the emotional ride will surely be something to remember, win or lose. Let's see who wins it all over the course of the next couple of days. Thanks for reading this newsletter. See you next month. Anthony Lee anthonyleebooks.com |
